Writing Challenge: A New Year

The year is done.

 

A year of satisfaction, a year of disappointment

 

And a year

 

Of change.

 

A year of hardships and of challenges

 

But we overcame them.

 

A new year

 

A clean slate

 

The opportunity to right the wrongs.

 

To take what we learned from the year before

 

And grow.

 

2013.

 

It was a long year.

 

We were more preoccupied

 

With Miley

 

And with Robin.

 

While out in the world, things were happening.

 

Malala inspired us

 

Writing a book to show us to keep moving

 

And to carry on.

 

The Boston Marathon

 

Destruction

 

But in the end, the survivors showed courage.

 

People were fighting wars.

 

Lives were being lost

 

Of people too young

 

And too scared.

 

People, who were denied the privilege

 

To improve.

 

And yet, we kept moving.

 

2013.

 

A year

 

Of mixed emotions.

 

A reminder that all that's good

 

Must come to an end at one time or another.

 

A year

 

That tested us.

 

But we kept going.

 

And we will keep going.

 

2014.

 

A chance.

 

It is beckoning to us.

 

Urging us

 

To fix things.

 

Now

 

All we have to do

 

Is try.
